FAA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) SOUTHAMPTON Jurys Inn Southampton, Charlotte Pl, Southampton, SO14 0TB Course Summary This Paediatric First Aid qualification is for those who work in a childcare setting. This paediatric first aid course has been specifically designed to meet the paediatric first aid requirements in the statutory framework for the early year's foundation stage. This qualification provides Learners with the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations, illnesses, injuries and emergencies which can arise when looking after children. Course Contents This course covers a range of topics, including (but not limited to) the following: Unit 1: Paediatric Emergency First Aid Assess an emergency situation and prioritise what action to take Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally Help a baby or child who is having a seizure Help a baby or child who is choking Help a baby or child who is bleeding Help a baby or child who is suffering from shock caused by severe blood loss (hypovolemic shock) Unit 2: Managing Paediatric Illness and Injury Anaphylactic shock Electric shock Burns or scalds Suspected fracture Head, neck or back injuries Poisoning Foreign body in eyes, ears or nose Eye injury Bites or stings Diabetic emergency; an asthma attack; meningitis; febrile convulsions; an allergic reaction Certification Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor, and a three-year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria. In addition, the HSE strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of three hours. Duration A minimum of 12 hours spread over at least two days. Ideally, the course should be run over two consecutive days, but can be spread over a longer time period if you so desire, providing it is completed within 7 weeks of starting the course and the training sessions last for a minimum of two hours. Cancellation Policy

Transfers of Dates Should circumstances mean that you need to transfer course dates the following charges will apply, dependent on the notice given: • First transfer, made more than four weeks prior to the course start date - no charge • Two to four weeks notice given - 25% of the course fee • Less than two weeks notice given - 50% of the course fee All transfers must be within a period of six months. Cancellations Should circumstances mean that you have to cancel your course and are unable to transfer to another date at the time of cancellation, the following charges will apply: • More than four weeks prior to the course start date - no charge • Two to four weeks prior to the course - 50% of the course fee • Less than two weeks prior to the course - full fee Cancellation must be made in writing by post, fax or email and received by the due date.
