The Assessment and Planning with Children in Residential Childcare course is designed to equip childcare professionals with the essential skills to assess and develop personalized care plans for children in residential care settings. Participants will learn how to conduct thorough, child-centered assessments that take into account the physical, emotional, social, and educational needs of each child. The course emphasizes the importance of creating individualized care plans that promote the well-being and development of children, foster positive outcomes, and ensure a safe, supportive environment. Key topics include: Understanding the assessment process and its role in care planning Identifying and addressing the unique needs of children in care Collaborating with families, professionals, and external agencies Developing clear, measurable goals and strategies to support children’s growth Evaluating progress and making adjustments to care plans as needed By the end of this course, participants will be able to create and implement effective care plans, monitor progress, and adapt strategies to meet the evolving needs of children in residential care, ensuring they receive the best possible support for their development.





Course Contents
By the end of this course, participants will be able to: Conduct comprehensive assessments of children in residential care. Develop individualized care plans based on assessment findings. Set measurable goals to support children’s emotional, behavioral, and social development. Implement and evaluate care plans, adjusting strategies as needed. Collaborate effectively with families, professionals, and external agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for children in care. This course will provide childcare professionals with the knowledge and tools they need to create and implement effective care plans, improving the quality of life and support for children in residential settings.

Assessment
The instructor conducts a single written assessments at the end of the course. Upon successful completion, learners will receive a three-year Level 3 Award in Principles of Safeguarding and Protecting Children, Young People or Vulnerable Adults (Level 6 in Scotland). No external assessors are required for this qualification.
Duration
The course requires a minimum of 7 hours, distributed over the day. While it is ideal to complete the course in one day, we can adjust the schedule to suit your specific needs, as long as the course is completed within 3 weeks of starting and each training session lasts at least two hours.

Certification Validity
This qualification has no formal expiry, however regular CPD and updates are recommended.

A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course and all candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age to qualify.
