Assistive Technology Course The Assistive Technology course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the tools and technologies that enhance the independence and quality of life for individuals with disabilities. This course explores various types of assistive devices and software designed to support individuals with physical, sensory, cognitive, and learning impairments. Participants will learn how to assess the needs of individuals, select appropriate technologies, and implement solutions that promote greater independence and inclusion. The course also covers the latest advancements in assistive technology, legal considerations, and best practices for integrating these tools into everyday environments, whether at home, school, or work. Key Topics Include: Overview of assistive technology and its impact on individuals with disabilities Types of assistive devices for mobility, communication, daily living, and learning Assessing the needs of individuals and selecting the right technology Hands-on exploration of assistive technology tools and devices Legal and ethical considerations in the use of assistive technology Best practices for integrating assistive technologies into care plans and daily life By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to confidently identify, recommend, and support the use of assistive technologies to improve the lives of individuals with diverse needs.

ntroduction to Assistive Technology Overview and importance of assistive technology (AT) Types of assistive devices: mobility, communication, daily living, sensory, and cognitive aids Assessing Individual Needs for AT Conducting needs assessments and selecting appropriate technology Matching devices to users based on specific disabilities and goals Key Types of Assistive Technology Mobility aids (e.g., wheelchairs, scooters) Communication aids (e.g., speech-generating devices, AAC systems) Cognitive and learning supports (e.g., text-to-speech, memory aids) Sensory aids (e.g., hearing aids, vision enhancement tools) Implementing and Integrating Assistive Technology Integrating AT into home, educational, and workplace settings Training users and caregivers on device operation and maintenance Legal, Ethical, and Accessibility Considerations Laws and policies related to AT (e.g., ADA, IDEA) Ethical concerns and ensuring accessibility for all users Emerging Trends in Assistive Technology Latest innovations in AT devices (e.g., AI, smart technologies) The future of assistive technology in various fields This course provides essential knowledge and practical skills to assess, select, and implement assistive technologies that enhance independence for individuals with disabilities.

Assessment

The instructor conducts a single written assessments at the end of the course. Upon successful completion, learners will receive a three-year Level 3 Award in Principles of Safeguarding and Protecting Children, Young People or Vulnerable Adults (Level 6 in Scotland). No external assessors are required for this qualification.

Duration

The course requires a minimum of 7 hours, distributed over the day. While it is ideal to complete the course in one day, we can adjust the schedule to suit your specific needs, as long as the course is completed within 3 weeks of starting and each training session lasts at least two hours.

Certification Validity 

This qualification has no formal expiry, however regular CPD and updates are recommended.
