Course Summary
The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism Tier 2
The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Tier 2 course is a comprehensive one-day programme for health and social care professionals who require a deeper level of understanding in their roles. It supports participants to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to deliver safe, compassionate and person-centred care for people with learning disabilities and autistic people.
The course explores the experiences of people with learning disabilities and autistic people within health and care settings, highlighting the impact of communication, reasonable adjustments and understanding individual needs. It promotes practical strategies to reduce health inequalities, improve outcomes and ensure care is responsive, respectful and legally compliant.
Combining expert-led teaching with contributions from people with lived experience, the training encourages reflection, discussion and application to real-world practice. By the end of the course, participants are better equipped to recognise barriers to care, adapt their approach appropriately and champion inclusive, high-quality support within their organisation.
