The Support Children to Manage Their Health course is designed for educators, caregivers, and child health professionals to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to support children in developing healthy habits and managing their well-being. The course covers key topics such as nutrition, physical activity, mental health, and safety, focusing on empowering children to take responsibility for their health and understand the importance of self-care. Participants will learn how to foster a supportive environment that promotes healthy choices, self-regulation, and overall well-being in children. Key Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, participants will be able to: Understand Key Aspects of Children’s Health Explore the different components of health: physical, emotional, social, and mental well-being. Recognize the importance of a balanced approach to health that includes nutrition, exercise, sleep, and emotional health. Support Healthy Nutrition and Dietary Habits Understand the role of nutrition in children's growth and development. Identify healthy food choices and the importance of balanced meals. Teach children about portion control, making healthy food choices, and developing positive eating habits. Encourage Regular Physical Activity Recognize the benefits of regular physical activity for children’s physical and mental health. Learn how to integrate fun, engaging exercises into daily routines and activities. Support children in building a positive relationship with exercise and physical activity. Promote Good Sleep Hygiene Understand the role of sleep in children’s health and well-being. Teach children the importance of sleep routines and how to create a healthy sleep environment. Address common sleep challenges such as insomnia, nightmares, and bedtime resistance. Support Mental and Emotional Health Explore strategies to promote emotional resilience, self-regulation, and positive mental health. Learn how to identify signs of stress, anxiety, and other emotional challenges in children. Provide tools to help children manage their emotions, cope with challenges, and build emotional intelligence. Teach Safety and Self-Care Equip children with knowledge of personal safety, hygiene, and the importance of self-care. Teach children how to maintain good hygiene habits (e.g., handwashing, brushing teeth) and understand their importance. Help children learn to recognize signs of illness and when to seek help from an adult. Develop Communication Skills for Health Education Use age-appropriate language and activities to teach children about managing their health. Foster open communication with children about health and well-being in a supportive, non-judgmental way. Build strong relationships with children that encourage ongoing discussions about health and self-care. Module 1: Introduction to Children's Health

Identifying and addressing risk factors for chronic conditions
Module 2: Supporting Healthy Nutrition and Dietary Habits
Key nutrients for growth and development: proteins, carbs, fats, vitamins, minerals
Importance of hydration and healthy eating patterns
Encouraging balanced meals and portion control
Teaching children about food choices and body effects
Strategies to overcome picky eating and foster positive food experiences
Incorporating fun and creativity into mealtimes
Module 3: Encouraging Regular Physical Activity
Benefits of physical activity on physical health, cognition, and mental well-being
Recommended physical activity levels by age
Fun exercises and games for active play
Adapting activities to different ages, abilities, and interests
Strategies to build active daily routines at home and school
Encouraging participation in sports and free play
Module 4: Promoting Good Sleep Hygiene
Importance of sleep for growth, cognition, and emotional regulation

Assessment
The instructor conducts a single written assessments at the end of the course. Upon successful completion, learners will receive a three-year Level 3 Award in Principles of Safeguarding and Protecting Children, Young People or Vulnerable Adults (Level 6 in Scotland). No external assessors are required for this qualification.
Duration
The course requires a minimum of 7 hours, distributed over the day. While it is ideal to complete the course in one day, we can adjust the schedule to suit your specific needs, as long as the course is completed within 3 weeks of starting and each training session lasts at least two hours.

Certification Validity
This qualification has no formal expiry, however regular CPD and updates are recommended.

A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course and all candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age to qualify.
